Generation Z in New and Alternative Careers

WHAT IS GINA

GINA - 'Generation Z in New and Alternative Careers' is Sustainversity's flagship green careers pathway; a virtual, cohort-based mentorship programme combining live mentor sessions with self-paced learning. It is designed to run as a series of cohorts, each one moving a new group of participants from foundational climate knowledge to a career-ready portfolio, guided by mentors working across the Green Economy.

Cohort 1 opens in August 2026 and runs for 20 weeks. Future cohorts will follow.

WHY GINA EXISTS

The green transition will fail without the full participation of the generation that will live longest with its outcomes. Right now, too many young people are locked out of the fastest-growing part of the global labour market, not for lack of interest, but for lack of access.

GINA exists to close that gap, deliberately:

  • Limited entry routes for people outside formal STEM backgrounds
  • Real barriers, cost, flexible retraining schedules, and the time pressures of work or study
  • Access gaps for neurodivergent learners, disabled learners, and those in low-bandwidth environments
  • A persistent myth that green careers are only for a narrow set of people
  • Women remain underrepresented across the green economy, and GINA is intentional about changing that

CALL FOR MENTORS & PARTNERS

The future of the green economy critically depends on the people willing to invest in it today.

GINA is bringing together experienced professionals and forward-thinking organisations to help shape the next generation of climate and sustainability leaders. We're looking for mentors across Climate and Green Economy Foundations, Green Economy Sectors, Digital Green Skills, Green Innovation, Career Pathways, and Leadership & Advocacy to share their expertise through live sessions and ongoing community engagement.

We also welcome organisations committed to the green transition to partner with GINA through sponsorship, employer engagement, pilot placements, or participation in our employer panel. Together, we can create opportunities, expand access, and build a stronger pipeline of green-economy talent.

Whether you're joining as a mentor, a partner, or both, your contribution can help unlock a greener future for the next generation.
